The future of sudden cardiac arrest survival lies in the hands of today’s innovators, emerging leaders and those willing to take action. The Citizen CPR Foundation is proud to represent a generation of 40 individuals under 40 years old who are dedicated to strengthening the future of sudden cardiac arrest training, response and survival.
At this year’s 2023 Cardiac Arrest Survival Summit, the Citizen CPR Foundation will honor 40 heart heroes who are under the age of 40. This recognition program helps create a strong community of engaged individuals focused on continuing to challenge the status quo and make an impact in sudden cardiac arrest.

At this year’s 2023 Cardiac Arrest Survival Summit, the Citizen CPR Foundation will honor 40 heart heroes who are under the age of 40. This recognition program helps create a strong community of engaged individuals focused on continuing to challenge the status quo and make an impact in sudden cardiac arrest.
Submissions to nominate an individual for the 40 Under 40 Class have closed. We look forward to announcing the Class of 2023 soon and celebrating them at this year’s CASSummit.
Cardiac Arrest Survival Video Contest
Citizen CPR Foundation joined forces with the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation (SCAF) to conduct a video contest aimed at increasing awareness of SCA and the importance of quick bystander action. Entries were reviewed, scored, and ranked using a set of evaluation criteria that considered adherence to the theme, creativity, production quality, and overall impact. The 2023 SCA Video Contest first, second and third place winners were recognized at the Cardiac Arrest Survival Summit, presented by CCPRF. The first place winner took home an AED—a $1,200 value!
Hans Dahll Award
The late Hans H. Dahll was a founding director of the Citizen CPR Foundation and served on the Board of Directors from its inception in 1987 until 2000. CCPRF became a reality in large measure because of him. In recognition of the contributions Dahll made to the field, in 1988 CCPRF established the prestigious Hans H. Dahll Award in his honor.
To receive this award, recipients of the Hans H. Dahll Award have had many years of service in research and publication, teaching and education, landmark contributions to the science of CPR and ECC, developed new and innovative technological breakthroughs and had national and international influence on clinical practice.
This award has been presented to leaders in the field at every Cardiac Arrest Survival Summit since 1990.
Congratulations to the 2023 Hans Dahll Award recipient, Karl B. Kern, MD, Gordon A. Ewy, MD Distinguished Endowed Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center, Chair of the Sarver Heart Center Resuscitation Research Group, and professor of medicine, UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson.
William H. Montgomery Award
The William H. Montgomery, MD, Excellence in Education Award is designed to promote the highest level of educational excellence at the Cardiac Arrest Survival Summit. Most concurrent session presentations at Summit 2023 are eligible to receive this award sponsored by the Laerdal Foundation for Acute Medicine. Presentations are judged based on the following criteria:
- Value of the content to the Summit audience
- Quality of teaching methodology
- Innovation
- Presenter’s knowledge of the subject matter
- Degree to which the objectives of the presentation were achieved
- Overall quality of presentation
This award is named in honor of Dr. Montgomery who served as Co-Founder and President of the Citizen CPR Foundation for more than 15 years and remains on the CCPRF Board as an emeritus member.
